Boron oxide is one of the important raw materials in glass manufacturing. It can not only enhance the melting speed and clarification effect of glass, but also enhance the quality of glass, such as luster, strength, durability, and heat resistance. It can also enhance the optical properties of glass, such as refractive index and dispersion index. Therefore, regardless of the manufacturing of any glass, boron oxide is an essential ingredient.


The function of boron oxide is as follows:


1. Acting as a co solvent, accelerating the clarification of glass and reducing its crystallization ability


When the boron oxide content in glass reaches 15%, it can improve the tensile strength, impact strength, and hardness of the glass.


When the boron oxide content in glass reaches 12%, the thermal expansion coefficient of the glass can be reduced, the thermal stability of the glass can be improved, the tensile strength of the glass can be improved, and the surface hardness can be increased.


4. Due to the introduction of boron, the glass liquid can reduce its fastness at higher temperatures and increase its viscosity at lower temperatures. Therefore, glass with high boron content has a relatively narrow temperature range for molding, and mechanical molding can improve the molding speed.


5. Boron oxide can also improve the refractive index of glass. When the lead content is the same, glass containing boron has better gloss than glass without boron.


Boron oxide is a white waxy solid that generally exists in an amorphous state and is difficult to form crystals, but it can also crystallize after high-strength annealing. It is one of the most difficult substances known to crystallize. The cooled boron dioxide is then crushed and packaged, and high-quality boron oxide is produced successfully!
